Building a community of support for this beautiful park

Friends of San Jose's Japanese Friendship Garden ar Taking Action

San Jose's Japanese Friendship Garden is one of the most serenely beautiful and uniquely engaging places in the Bay Area. Given as a gift by the City of Okayama, Japan (San Jose's Sister City), this park offers a unique landscape, a series of calming koi ponds, a variety of floral splendor, and an elegant Tea House, all connected by sloping green lawns and modest, welcoming trails.

The Friends of San Jose Japanese Friendship Garden is an effort by people who love this park who seek to build and maintain a community of support for the park. The volunteer group intends to do a variety of things for the park:

1. To be a resource for historical records and photos; 2. Provide docent tours for visitors; 3. Educate the public about the park; and 4. Provide volunteers to help with a variety of stewardship tasks.

UPDFATE: November, 2019

Led by Aderyn Clark, the Friends of the Japanese Friendship Garden held a special "Garden Party" on Saturday, November 2. It was well-attended by about 150 citizens, including three members of the City Council – Lan Diep (D4), Pam Foley(D9) and Johnny Khamis (D10). Councilmember Maya Esparza could not attend, but sent a staff member.

Other news: San Jose Parks Foundation and the Japantown LIons Club have teamed up to replace the JFG Wishing Well. The City will be re-installing this fundraising element soon.
