Giving Tuesday – Protect San Jose Parks, Trails and the Programs within them

Giving Tuesday offers a great opportunity for us to Protect San Jose Parks, Trails and the many programs within them, including Viva Parks and Viva CalleSJ. Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, we were able to organize a rapid response to proposed budget cuts that would have decimated Viva CalleSJ and Viva Parks, two programs that serve everyone, including low-income and left out residents. Our Advocacy effort save about $300,000 for those programs. That is real protection for San Jose's Parks.

Giving Tuesday has enabled San Jose Parks Foundation to protect our beloved Koi at the Japanese Friendship Garden, where the temporary filters we purchased through your contributions still keep our Koi thriving, even as we await the coming construction of a new filtration system which will untie the five ponds again.

Giving Tuesday enables the recruitment, training and management of hundreds of volunteers. Everything from finding schools, church groups, businesses and neighborhood volunteers; and then providing them with the tools needed to do the jobs we ask them to do. Maintaining the tools and equipment, providing proper storage, and having vehicles to move them around to different parks -- all of this happens because you donate.

San Jose Parks Foundation's Board has put up $7,500 to be matched this year, so every dollar you give is doubled. Your donation of $125 is worth $250 on Giving Tuesday. Be generous, please . Join a worldwide day of giving and make a specific gift that supports San Jose Parks.

Lest we forget how beautiful our parks are, we've added this video created by a student volunteer from a few years back to remind ourselves.
