Be a guardian: Join the fight for our future.

At Guardian Art, our philosophy is all about learning to protect others: our families, our communities, our cultural heritages, and our earth. But right now we need your help to make sure that Guardian Art can weather the current storm and grow and thrive into the future.

What is Guardian Art?
Guardian Art is ancient physical training discipline and fighting art that descends from indigenous cultures to strengthen the body, challenge the mind, and unite them in protecting the future. Our philosophy and code of honor at Guardian Art are about creating guardians, who apply their skills to protect all life and create paths for others to thrive.

Our fight
Guardian Art has been severely impacted by the closures and new social distancing needs due to Covid-19, but we’re using the very skills of adaptation and resilience that our practice teaches to overcome these challenges:
  • We’ve developed engaging virtual classes that help keep members physically and mentally strong and connected to the Guardian Art community from their own homes
  • We’ve started outdoor classes at our Nexus in Fremont so that members can practice together but in a safe, socially distanced covered outdoor space.
  • We’re exploring options for further improving our Nexus so that when we do re-open we can ensure that it is safe for members and staff.

Why we need your help
We need your financial support in order to remain strong during this crisis. Running virtual classes and setting up our outdoor gym require significant investments in technology and equipment. Among other things, we need to
  • Upgrade our Internet system and webcasting technology
  • Build outdoor awnings
  • Purchase outdoor mats and other safety gear
What’s more, we need to pay rent and utility bills for the Nexus at Fremont, even when it is not open. The Nexus of Guardian Art in Fremont is important as both a state-of-the-art indoor training facility, but also as the Embassy of Guardian Art and headquarters for Guardian Saga—our nonprofit dedicated to serving underprivileged youth and bringing Guardian Art back to the indigenous communities that it descends from.

Our future
We have an opportunity to use this crisis to become stronger, to grow our community, and to spread the practice of Guardian Art to more people than ever before through online classes and workshops. But to reach these goals we need your support. Please consider donating to our future. Nexian-Thrive.

Fall, 2022 Update

Over this past Indigenous Day weekend, we collaborated with Nibezun, an Indigenous led non-profit, to run a 4 day Guardian Art camp and made history by returning the original gamestick to the Wabanaki in the sacred Dawnland! It's believed this hasn't been done in over 500 years! Youth from all over North America joined in learning how to make the stick, training Guardian Art, canoeing among the gorgeous foliage, experiencing the power of the sweat lodge, appreciating Wabanaki culture, putting up a freshly carved game pole, and of course, playing the original, more badass version of Lacrosse with the original sticks they made! It couldn't have been a more joyous day as we ended the camp with Green Corn Ceremony festivities of drumming, singing, dancing, and an epic feast.

Our mission is to make the next generation of Earth's Guardians, and we believe camps like these are instrumental to that. But these camps cannot happen without the support from our donors. So thank you so much for helping us not only make history, but help make a better future.
